Domain names are the digital real estate of the internet, and like physical properties, they too can come at a staggering price. You’re probably aware that many domains are worth a lot of money, however many people don’t realise just how valuable some adult domains are too!

As the adult entertainment industry grew and evolved online, the demand for adult domain names increased, driving up their value. It’s fair to say that adult domains aren’t quite as valuable as they were 15 years ago, however, the really good domains still retain value.

I’m going to look at a few of the most expensive adult domain names that have been sold in the past, their owners, and the history behind these transactions.

Sex.com – $13 million (2010)

Topping the list, is the iconic Sex.com, which was sold for a jaw-dropping $13 million in 2010. The domain was initially registered in 1994 by entrepreneur Gary Kremen, who later founded Match.com.

Due to a legal dispute, Kremen lost the domain to conman Stephen Michael Cohen in 1996, but regained ownership in 2001 after a lengthy court battle.

In 2006, Escom LLC acquired Sex.com, which eventually went into foreclosure. Clover Holdings Limited, a company based in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, purchased the domain at auction in 2010, making it the most expensive adult domain name in history.

Porn.com – $9.5 million (2007)

The second most expensive adult domain name ever sold is Porn.com, which changed hands for $9.5 million in 2007.

The buyer, MXN Limited, a company based in the British Virgin Islands, acquired the domain from its previous owner, who chose to remain anonymous.
